Rapeseed becomes a key alternative for Ukrainian processors

Limited sunflower supply is pushing plants to compete for the new oilseed crop

Ukrainian processors are paying closer attention to the new rapeseed crop as limited sunflower supply keeps pressure on oilseed processing. Rapeseed is increasingly viewed as an alternative raw material that can help load production capacity during the season.

Analysts note that global rapeseed prices remain resilient despite volatility in the oil market. Energy prices continue to influence oilseed sentiment, while European quotations have stayed at elevated levels and may test higher marks during the summer.

Exporters and plants compete

In Ukraine, demand for new-crop rapeseed has become more active. Domestic processors are looking for volumes, but exporters are also expected to send large batches through ports. This creates competition for farmers, especially for smaller lots that can be attractive to local plants.

The market signal is positive for growers because processors need raw material and export channels remain open. At the same time, price expectations depend on global oilseed trends, logistics and the balance between domestic crushing and external demand.

If sunflower supply stays tight, rapeseed may play a larger role in keeping Ukrainian processing facilities busy. For the sector, this is not only a pricing story, but also a question of industrial utilization and supply chain flexibility.
