Dynamics of development of the Ukrainian agricultural sector and situation with export over the last 30 years

The agro-industrial complex of the country today is one of the largest industries in Ukraine. The government announced the intention to make Ukraine one of the leaders in the global food market.

The domestic agro-industrial complex has made a progressive step forward in the cultivation of grain and leguminous crops over the past 30 years of manufacturing agricultural products.

Today Ukraine occupies a leading position in the export list of agricultural products for a number of indicators. The quantity of agricultural exports in total trade with international partners has grown by almost 40% over the last 20 years. As of 2020, Ukraine ranks first in the world in terms of supplies of sunflower oil and meal.

A significant part of agricultural export products of Ukrainian origin is bought by Asian countries, led by China. Europe is in second place, America is in third place. The most popular are Ukrainian products of plant origin. In the second place in popularity are animal fats and vegetable oils, and products from the food industry take the third place.

Export profit of 2021

  • Herbal products were sold in international markets for $11.9 billion;
  • other countries purchased Domestic animal fats and vegetable oil for $5.7 billion;
  • Trade in food products brought Ukraine $3.4 billion;
  • Ukrainian products of animal origin were exported for $1.2 billion.

Thanks to its enormous potential, the agrarian sector of Ukraine continues to be a key investment sector. The volume of investments in the agro-industrial complex for nine months amounted to more than $2.2 billion, of which $1.7 billion has was directly invested in agriculture. Half of these funds went to livestock projects and farm construction.
