Before the EU summit, the prime minister of Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš said that for peace in Europe, "Russia must lose the war in Ukraine, and Ukraine must win. And we can help in this in two ways: the first is by military means, helping Ukraine to defend itself, and the second is isolating the Russian economy (through sanctions)." And Europe should help Ukraine win.
Also, Krišjānis Kariņš refuted the forecast of the French minister for European affairs Clement Bon about 15-20 years for Ukraine to receive the status of candidates for EU membership.
"Europe must open its doors. Candidacy is a purely political decision that can be made in one day. Therefore, it is now important that we make this decision — for Ukraine and other countries that want to join the European democratic family of states that want to live according to the rule of law, not the right of force," Krišjānis Kariņš.
We remind you that Ukraine expects to become a candidate member of the European Union at the EU summit in June. That is in a few weeks.
