Reorganisation of the Energy System to Avoid Blackouts

Ukraine launches a network of autonomous power plants to deregulate the country's power chain

The state launched a project to ensure Ukraine's energy security. From January 2023, a network of autonomous power plants will be launched in Ukraine, which will help the country avoid a blackout and mitigate the consequences of the Russian attack on our country's energy system. Mini-power plants will create an energy reserve for consumers and ensure uninterrupted nuclear generation.

"They are small and do not require special maintenance. Twenty such stations can produce the power of one nuclear unit. For example, 100-150 MW is needed to start a nuclear unit. Generators do not reach such a power, but mini-power plants will cope well with this task," a head of the committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on energy and housing and communal services Andrii Gerus.

The Ukrainian parliament also plans to allow entrepreneurs to install their own mini-power plants and to liberalize the maximum price for fuel storage.

We remind you that the United States is considering installing small modular reactors in Ukraine.
