The company's CEO, Armin Papperger, announced that the first plant is already operational, with additional facilities in the pipeline.
First Plant Already Operational
"The first plant is already in operation. The Ukrainian defense industry is our partner," Papperger stated. He highlighted that the existing facility is actively servicing military combat vehicles and main battle tanks.
"At this moment, we are servicing military combat vehicles, as well as main battle tanks. This is a highly productive enterprise," said Papperger.
Joint Venture and Ownership
Papperger mentioned that Rheinmetall holds a 51% stake in the joint venture overseeing the operational plant. This partnership underscores the company's commitment to collaborating closely with Ukrainian defense entities.
Future Facilities in Development
The CEO outlined plans for additional facilities, including:
- A Powder Plant: Aiming to bolster the supply of essential materials for ammunition.
- An Ammunition Production Plant: To enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities through local manufacturing.
"We are on track to open a powder plant and an ammunition production plant in Ukraine. We also want to improve the proliferation of software systems to enhance protective measures," Papperger added.
Strengthening Ukraine's Defense Industry
By expanding its presence, Rheinmetall seeks to support Ukraine in building a more robust and self-sufficient defense industry. The introduction of advanced manufacturing and servicing facilities is expected to:
- Enhance Local Production: Facilitating the production of sophisticated military equipment like the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle.
- Boost Employment: Creating job opportunities within Ukraine's defense sector.
- Improve Defense Readiness: Providing the Ukrainian military with improved access to modern equipment and maintenance services.
