On July 9, the European Commission confirmed the extension of the April 2022 agreement on affordable tariffs for telephone calls between Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in the European Union. 20 EEA groups from 22 European countries and 7 Ukrainian mobile operators have agreed to extend reduced prices for calls between relatives and friends who were separated by the war.
The Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications monitors the implementation of the agreements. BEREC confirms that this action was beneficial for each of the parties that joined the agreement last year. At the same time, the rest of the EU countries retain standard rates for international calls.
The European Commission calls on all EU countries to participate in the agreement.
The website of the European Commission reports that the organisation is preparing a base for attracting Ukraine to the pan-European roaming zone. In 2023, the proposal for integration was adopted by the EU-Ukraine association committee, further — the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU requirements. After that, the discussion about the integration of Ukraine into the EU Roaming rules resumes.
