Shellfish Exports from Ukraine Increase by 50.4% in First 7 Months of 2024

Between January and July 2024, Ukraine’s shellfish exports surged by 50.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching 704 tons

This increase in exports generated a revenue boost of one-third, totaling $3.6 million, according to data from the State Customs Service.

Key markets for Ukrainian shellfish during this period were Lithuania (59%), Spain (21.3%), and Poland (8%).

Ukraine's shellfish imports also rose by 10.7%, amounting to 3.1 thousand tons. In monetary terms, imports reached $11.2 million, a 27.3% increase compared to January-July 2023. China (33.3%), France (17.2%), and Chile (16.8%) were the largest suppliers to Ukraine's domestic market.

Notably, Mediterranean mussels, Pacific, and European oysters are considered promising mariculture options for cultivation in Ukraine's southwestern waters.
