Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized the government’s intention to make 2025 a pivotal year for European integration.
Clusters and Negotiation Structure
-
36 Working Groups Formed
Shmyhal stated at a government meeting that Ukraine has set up 36 working groups to handle each of the negotiation clusters with the EU. -
Screening Continues
“We are doing everything possible to make 2025 a turning point on our European integration path. From the political decision to start negotiations, we are now moving on to negotiations on specific clusters,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that Ukraine’s screening of its legislation for compliance with EU law will continue to guide these discussions. -
Speedy Completion
The government’s goal, Shmyhal noted, is to “complete the negotiation process as quickly as possible.”
Roadmap and Outlook
- Political Decision to Negotiation Clusters
According to Shmyhal, the political decision to open accession negotiations must be followed by rapid, detailed talks on the individual clusters. - 2025 as a Milestone
Shmyhal envisions 2025 as a landmark year for Ukraine’s European integration, suggesting that Ukraine would push hard to finalize negotiations during this period.
Note: In December, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen mentioned the possibility that formal talks on Ukraine’s first membership cluster could start in early 2025, with other clusters potentially being addressed over the course of the same year.
