Slovak Carriers Block Key Border Checkpoint with Ukraine

Slovak transport carriers have initiated a blockade at the Vyshnye-Nemetske border checkpoint, directly impacting the adjacent Ukrainian checkpoint Uzhhorod

This development was confirmed in a statement by the State Border Service of Ukraine, shared on Telegram.

The strike, which commenced around 4:05 p.m. today, is being orchestrated by the Transporters' Union of Slovakia. Despite the blockade, certain types of cargo will continue to pass through. According to the State Border Service, humanitarian aid, essential goods, live animals, fuel, and refrigerated items will not be affected. However, other cargo exiting Slovakia will face restrictions, with only four trucks allowed through per hour.

Importantly, the blockade does not affect traffic entering Slovakia. The passage of cars and buses remains unimpeded.

This situation arises amid growing traffic congestion. As of the morning of December 1, about 600 trucks were already queued on the "Uzhhorod-Vyshnye Nemetske" route.

A similar blockade is occurring at the Polish border. However, Ukrainian and Polish authorities have reportedly agreed on certain measures to alleviate the situation at this blocked checkpoint.

In a related incident, Ukrainian drivers at one of the affected checkpoints have reportedly begun a hunger strike in response to these developments.
