Slovenia Supports Czech Initiative for Ammunition Supply to Ukraine

Slovenia has pledged its support for the Czech Republic’s initiative to procure artillery ammunition for Ukraine from sources outside the European Union

This commitment was revealed during the visit of Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky to Ljubljana, as reported by Radio Prague International.

While the precise contribution from Slovenia has not been disclosed, Slovenian media speculate that the government is expected to allocate around one million euros to the initiative. This move underscores Slovenia's commitment to aiding Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.

Conversely, Austria has opted not to participate in this initiative, citing its stance on military neutrality. This was confirmed by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.

The decision came to light following a meeting in Ljubljana of the Central 5 informal group, which consists of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, and Slovakia. The group's discussions prominently featured Ukraine, highlighting the collective concern and support for the country within the Central European region.

In addition to military aid, Slovenia has expressed its intention to continue supporting Kyiv through various forms of assistance, including reconstruction efforts, demining activities, and providing rehabilitation and psychosocial support for affected children and families. This comprehensive approach reflects the broader scope of support Slovenia aims to offer Ukraine during these challenging times.
