Ukraine’s spring sowing campaign is almost complete

Corn, sunflower and soy dominate the structure of spring crops in controlled areas

Ukrainian farmers have nearly completed the spring sowing campaign on territory controlled by the government. Operational data show that most planned areas under spring grains, legumes and industrial crops have already been planted.

The largest area among spring grains is corn. Farmers have also finished or nearly finished sowing wheat, oats, millet, buckwheat, barley and peas. Among industrial crops, sunflower and soy remain the dominant choices.

Crop structure under pressure

The sowing results show that agriculture continues to adapt despite war, logistics risks and regional differences in access to land. Corn, sunflower and soy keep their importance because they connect domestic processing, export channels and farm liquidity.

The near completion of sowing is important for the wider economy. It supports future harvest volumes, rural employment and the supply of raw material for processors and exporters.

Weather, security and logistics will still define the final season outcome. Yet the pace of fieldwork confirms that Ukrainian agriculture remains one of the most resilient parts of the economy.
