On July 1, the White House published a message about Ulf Kristersson's upcoming visit to Washington. During the meeting, the PM and Joe Biden will discuss the situation with the processing of Sweden's request to join NATO, the security and challenges of Sweden in the face of Russian aggression, as well as the situation in Ukraine.
White House: "(Parties — ed.) will review our growing security cooperation and reiterate their view that Sweden should join NATO as soon as possible."
"Leaders will discuss our shared commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia's brutal war of aggression and closer transatlantic coordination regarding the People's Republic of China."
We remind you that due to the atrocities that Russia demonstrated during the war against Ukraine, Sweden and Finland applied for NATO membership at the same time. Before that, the states had been neutral for decades. Finland has already been accepted into the Alliance, while Sweden's request has been blocked by Turkey and Hungary so far.
Stoltenberg has scheduled a summit in Vilnius for July 6. It is expected that these days Ukraine will receive guarantees and a package of assistance.
