Terms for Crossing the Border of Ukraine for Foreigners

How does the process of crossing the border by train/own car, and what a businessman or volunteer should know

Currently, Ukraine is under martial law, so tourist trips to Ukraine are still prohibited. However, the rest of the crossing categories, such as business visits, volunteering, treatment, etc., are allowed. Accordingly, if you are not a citizen of Russia or Belarus — welcome to Ukraine. A foreigner has the right to cross the border without a visa and stay in Ukraine for 90 days. However, you need to have justification for entering Ukraine. It may be:

  • A written invitation from a Ukrainian or a Ukrainian company;
  • Open event invitations, event tickets, etc;
  • Hotel reservation for the entire stay in Ukraine;
  • Etc.

Your tickets must be on 2 sides. In addition, after the end of the 90 days of stay in Ukraine, you will need to submit a request for an extension of the period of stay in accordance with the migration rules of Ukraine. And GT Invest will help you with this.

In order to cross the border of Ukraine by car with foreign license plates, you must have the following documents with you:

  • ID;
  • Driver's license;
  • Car registration certificate with valid insurance;
  • Vehicle insurance Green card.

Important: do not forget that a war is going on in Ukraine. Martial law is in effect throughout Ukraine, which provides for a curfew — a ban on driving or walking at night. The curfew may vary by region, but it is usually from 12 midnight to 5 a. m. During Russian air attacks on the city you are in, an air raid alarm will sound. This is a signal that you need to go into theft immediately. To know exactly about the beginning and end of air alarms, we recommend installing the app of the same name or, if you are in Kyiv, the Kyiv digital app.
