Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Olaf Scholz signed an agreement on the speedy delivery of 2 IRIS-T SLM air defence systems to Ukraine and the further transfer of 6 more. These systems are manufactured at Diehl Defense factories. It was there that on May 26, a delegation consisting of Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeiev, consul general of Ukraine in Munich Yuriy Yarmilko, prime minister of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann, and head of Diehl Defense Helmut Rauch went.
"The only thing that saves the lives of my parents and millions of our citizens in Ukraine now is air defence systems. I thank every Diehl Defense employee for their work, and I would like even more Germans to realize that there is no better application for such weapons systems than in Ukraine," Oleksii Makeiev.
In response to the gratitude of the Ukrainian side, PM Kretschmann confirmed that Germany will continue to support Ukraine.
"We are happy that the capacities of the enterprise are so useful to the Ukrainian people, and in this way, we show our solidarity with Ukraine," Winfried Kretschmann.
