On 6 May, the parliament of Ukraine introduced the issue of business languages. The main applicant for obtaining the status of the business language of Ukraine became English. Politicians note that this language has always been popular, but now it is used by almost every Ukrainian. English is used in Ukraine in many areas of work: IT, journalism, sports, politics, and business of any type. Therefore, it is logical to give English a special role, which is closer to European countries.
"The cabinet of ministers is currently working on a legislative initiative. English today is used in business communication throughout the civilized world, so granting it such a status in Ukraine will contribute to the development of business, attract investment and accelerate the European integration of Ukraine," prime minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal noted on Telegram.
The line ministries have begun to draft the necessary documents for the draft law proposal.
It is worth noting that the role of English in Ukraine has long gone beyond the school subject and the "language of successful people". In March 2021, the secretary of the national security and defense council of Ukraine stated that English should be the second state language for Ukraine.
