The ministers of defence and foreign affairs of the European Union have made a historic decision on joint assistance to Ukraine – an allocation of €2 billion. The allies have drawn up and approved a plan to split the funds: €1 billion will be spent for the rapid delivery of 1 million artillery ammunition, and the other part of the amount is for replenishment. In addition, the plan includes increasing the production capacity of defence plants.
Josep Borrell has announced his approval of a plan to help the Ukrainian side in the war against destructive Russia. He specified that the project would deal with 155 mm shells. They are suitable for howitzers and have high efficiency with a range of 30 km.
The initiator of such assistance is Estonia. The government of the country notes that Ukraine needed these shells.
"Ukraine needs ammunition and has asked for it. Glad that EU foreign and defence ministers approved the initiative today," Kaja Kallas, the PM of Estonia on Twitter.
It is also noted that such a step will allow the Union countries to create their own strengthened defence industry.
