During his stay in Ukraine, Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Store visited one of the energy infrastructure facilities, which was hit by Russian missiles several times in a row. To help Ukraine survive the winter of 2023-24 and Russian attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, minister Store announced a government decision worth NOK 1.5 billion ($1.4 billion). The funds will be used for Ukraine's energy supply through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
"The government of Norway allocates NOK 1.5 billion to ensure the import of gas and electricity to Ukraine through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Funds will be used to repair and maintain critical electricity infrastructure and emergency power supply in areas affected by hostilities, as well as to purchase gas for emergency storage," Jonas Gahr Store.
The minister of Store also held talks with the minister of energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko. The parties raised the topics of offshore wind generation and hydro generation in Ukraine, as well as the participation of Norwegian engineers in the process of rebuilding the Kakhovka HPP.
