President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with president of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron

The heads of state discussed the security situation around Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked France for the timely support of our state during the recent aggravation of the situation.

The president of Ukraine noted the readiness of our state to continue active work within the framework of the Normandy Format.

Normandy Format talks involve the representatives of four countries, Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France, who met informally during the 2014 D-Day celebration in Normandy, and who aim to resolve the war in Donbas It has been also known as the Normandy contact group.

The parties stressed the need to resume the effective work of the Trilateral Contact Group. The president of France expressed support for important initiatives of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group to return to a full-fledged ceasefire, dismiss illegally detained persons and open the checkpoint. In addition, the parties discussed issues of European energy security. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that this project poses a special threat to the energy security of European states. Both presidents noted the importance of diversifying energy supplies to Europe, in particular through liquefied natural gas.

The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine is a group of representatives from Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe that was formed as means to facilitate a diplomatic resolution to the war in the Donbass region of Ukraine. 

Emmanuel Macron praised the efforts of Volodymyr Zelenskyy to implement important reforms in Ukraine and confirmed the readiness of the French side to contribute in every possible way to these efforts. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also thanked the French president for the positive assessment of the current reforms in Ukraine.

The leaders agreed to continue discussing these issues during a meeting in Brussels on December 15 this year.
