The Pentagon continues to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the struggle for territory with the Russian army. Since August 2021, the United States has approved the 38th weapons package for transfer to the front line. This time, the Ministry of defence operates within the initiative's framework to promote Ukraine's security. On 9 May, it was announced that Ukraine should soon receive the following:
- Additional air defence systems and ammunition for installations;
- Equipment for combining foreign systems (missiles, launchers, radars) with the air defence of the AFU;
- Ammunition to kill air targets;
- 155 mm artillery shells;
- Satellite images from United States commercial representatives.
The amount of such assistance will be $1.2 billion. In addition, this financial calculation includes support for training Ukrainian soldiers and assistance in the maintenance of equipment.
The Pentagon approved the 37th aid package a week ago. The amount allocated by the US Department of defense was $300 million. The strategic communications coordinator of the national security council, John Kirby, reports that the Pentagon has approved and provided 98% of the Kyiv government's requests for counter-offensive operations.
