Agriculture now accounts for 56% of Ukraine’s exports

The government sees the next growth reserve in processed goods with higher added value

Ukraine’s agricultural sector has become the central pillar of national exports, accounting for 56% of total export structure. Economy, Environment and Agriculture Minister Oleksiy Sobolev said the country’s next export reserve lies in products with higher added value.

The shift is partly a result of war. Ukraine has lost a large share of its industrial and export potential, while metallurgy, chemicals and electrical machinery now occupy much smaller shares in total exports. Against this background, agriculture has not only held its position but expanded its role.

Processing becomes the growth story

The most important signal is not only raw agricultural exports. The share of processed products has increased from 46.2% in 2021 to 56.6%. Exports of poultry meat rose by 52%, biscuits and confectionery by 46%, chocolate by 80%, and sugar by more than fifteen times.

For business, this is the strategic direction: more processing, more jobs, stronger regional value chains and fewer barriers linked to raw commodity dependence. Programs such as Made in Ukraine and SME & Export Alliance are meant to scale this experience into other sectors.
