Stable position in the European market
Ukraine has been consistently among the TOP-5 suppliers of organic products to the European Union for many years. Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky announced this at the annual “Organic Day in Ukraine” conference.
Current figures
-
260 certified operators comply with national organic legislation.
-
436 operators are certified under EU and/or US standards.
-
350,000 hectares of agricultural land already have organic status — about 1.2% of Ukraine’s total farmland.
Despite wartime challenges, the organic sector continues to function and show results.
Growth ambitions
Ukraine has set ambitious goals for the development of the organic sector:
-
5% of agricultural land with organic status in the near term,
-
25%, aligning with targets set by EU countries.
Vysotsky emphasized that the increase in certified operators and the presence of two certification bodies in Ukraine indicates rising demand and producer interest.
Legislative harmonization with the EU
Work is actively underway to adapt Ukrainian organic legislation to EU requirements.
-
Bill No. 13204-1 is being prepared for second reading and may be adopted this fall.
-
The organic sector demonstrates some of the strongest indicators of alignment with EU agricultural legislation.
