Ukraine has embarked on a significant diplomatic initiative with Great Britain, launching the first round of negotiations to establish a comprehensive 100-year partnership agreement. The discussions, led by Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, aim to deepen the bilateral relations between the two countries and build upon the foundations laid by previous agreements.
This new agreement is envisioned to be more extensive and ambitious than its predecessors, covering a broad spectrum of areas including security, economy, energy, culture, and art. The negotiations underscore the strong relationship between Ukraine and Britain, which has been particularly evident since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Britain was the first to sign a security agreement with Ukraine and continues to be a leading supporter of the country.
Yermak expressed gratitude for Britain's unwavering support and leadership, emphasizing the importance of this new partnership in securing a just peace and preventing future aggression against Ukraine. The agreement is expected to strengthen the strategic alliance between the two nations, with the goal of establishing unprecedented cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
The upcoming agreement will build on the 2020 Agreement on Political Cooperation, Free Trade, and Strategic Partnership, as well as the 2024 Security Cooperation Agreement. Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva highlighted that the new document aims to set ambitious goals, reflecting the evolving needs and shared interests of both countries.
This historic initiative is seen as a crucial step towards solidifying a long-term partnership that will not only support Ukraine's current challenges but also lay the groundwork for sustained collaboration over the next century.
