This announcement came during discussions between Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister for European Integration, Serhiy Boev, and Pierre Elbron, Special Envoy of the French President for Assistance and Reconstruction of Ukraine.
Strengthening Defense Industry Cooperation
Deputy Defense Minister Boev emphasized Ukraine's pressing need for enhanced air defense capabilities, particularly given the ongoing conflict with Russia. "Ukrainian production requires additional funding to fully utilize its capacities. We produce shells, artillery systems, and long-range drones. However, air defense remains a critical need," Boev stated.
He noted that Ukraine is eager to discuss options for joint production of advanced air defense systems, leveraging France's expertise as a global leader in air and missile defense technologies. Such cooperation would strengthen Ukraine's immediate defense capabilities and pave the way for long-term production sustainability.
Strategic Importance of Joint Efforts
France has consistently been at the forefront of providing Ukraine with military support. Developing air defense systems and interceptors collaboratively would deepen the industrial and strategic ties between the two nations. This partnership aligns with Ukraine’s broader defense modernization goals and its plans to fortify the production of critical military technologies.
"This collaboration is vital not only for bolstering the immediate defensive needs of Ukraine but also for ensuring the long-term resilience of its defense industry," Boev added.
Funding and Future Prospects
The meeting also highlighted Ukraine's priority strategic defense projects for 2025 and potential avenues for financing them. With France’s support, these projects could accelerate, providing both nations with mutual benefits in defense innovation and production capacity.
Ukraine’s initiative reflects its determination to become a key player in regional defense manufacturing, a move that could significantly contribute to European security.
