Two ferry trips were successfully completed from the port of Chornomorsk in Ukraine to the Georgian port of Batumi.
Tymofiy Murakhovsky, Director of Commercial Work and Logistics at JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, announced, "Two flights were made on March 18 and 26 from the port of Chornomorsk to the port of Batumi, and a third flight is planned for next week," during the meeting titled “Resumption of ferry service between Ukraine and Georgia within the framework of the TMTM corridor.”
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Odesa-based shipping company Ukrferry and UZ Cargo Poland, a subsidiary of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia located in Warsaw. Murakhovsky noted that the initial March flights were conducted discreetly, and he encouraged other businesses to join the trend, promoting increased connectivity.
Previously, sea transportation between Ukraine and Georgia had been suspended since the onset of the full-scale war. Although Ukrferry had announced the resumption of the "Chornomorsk-Batumi" ferry connection to begin on July 9, 2024, this project did not materialize until now.
With the revival of this ferry service, both Ukraine and Georgia are poised to benefit from enhanced transportation links that are expected to boost trade, tourism, and overall economic recovery in the region.
