High-Level Defense Talks in Kyiv
On September 14, 2025, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense held a strategic meeting in Kyiv with the German Ministry of Defense delegation, led by Brigadier General Joachim Kashke and his predecessor Major General Christian Freuding.
The discussions focused on joint production and development of long-range strike drones, strengthening Ukraine’s defense industry, and expanding cooperation under NATO standards.
Key Points of German Support
-
Annual financial support: Germany reaffirmed its commitment to provide €9 billion annually in aid to Ukraine.
-
Drone industry investment: Berlin pledged €300 million to support the production of long-range strike drones in Ukraine.
-
Air defense assistance: Germany continues to play a key role in supplying Patriot systems and coordinating broader air defense support.
👉 These commitments demonstrate Germany’s dual role as both a security guarantor and an industrial partner.
Joint Production and "Build with Ukraine"
The parties continued discussions initiated during the Ramstein Defense Group meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Key topics included:
-
Joint production facilities with German defense companies.
-
Launching new UAV projects under the Build with Ukraine initiative.
-
Standardization reforms in the Armed Forces of Ukraine to align with NATO requirements.
Strategic Outlook
Ukraine’s defense leadership emphasized that partnerships with Germany are not limited to supplies — they are shifting toward industrial co-production and technology transfer.
For Ukraine, this means:
-
Greater self-sufficiency in high-tech weaponry.
-
Integration into the European defense-industrial base.
-
New opportunities for foreign investors in UAV and aerospace sectors.
