Ukraine and the Czech Republic Strengthen Cooperation in Medical Tourism and Resort Treatment

A Kyiv seminar highlights joint opportunities in rehabilitation, spa treatment, and post-war recovery programs

Key Event in Kyiv

A specialized seminar on medical tourism and resort treatment was held in Kyiv, organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine and CzechTourism, with the support of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event brought together leading representatives of the Czech spa industry and Ukrainian tourism authorities to discuss new partnership opportunities.

The seminar was opened by:

  • Ivan Galat, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine

  • Anna Birkovska, Manager of Spa & Wellness at CzechTourism

Anna Birkovska highlighted that cooperation goes beyond traditional spa vacations, focusing on the urgent rehabilitation needs of Ukrainians after injuries and complex surgeries. Czech resorts and clinics, with decades of experience, are ready to offer individual treatment programs using modern medical technologies.

Ukrainian Perspective

The Ukrainian side was represented by Taras Lozynsky, First Deputy Head of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine (DART).

Lozynsky emphasized:

  • Ukraine has gained unique expertise in rehabilitation during more than three years of full-scale war.

  • Ukrainian doctors and specialists have developed strong practices in the rehabilitation of military personnel and veterans.

  • Local resorts — Kosino, Berehove, Khmilnyk, Skhidnytsia, Truskavets, and Morshyn — offer natural resources such as mineral waters and therapeutic mud, making them suitable for expanded medical tourism programs.

Czech Resorts and Clinics Showcased

The Czech Republic presented its leading resorts and companies, spanning both traditional spa centers and modern medical facilities:

  • Lazne Podebrady – cardiology-focused historic resort.

  • Lazne Darkov – specializing in musculoskeletal and neurological treatments.

  • Lazne Teplice v Cechach – one of Europe’s oldest balneology centers.

  • Imperial Karlovy Vary Group – hotels and medical complexes.

  • Luxury Spa Hotel Olympic Palace (Karlovy Vary) – five-star rehabilitation and spa.

  • Spa Hotel St. Joseph Royal Regent (Karlovy Vary).

  • Falkensteiner Spa Resort (Marianske Lazne).

  • Vedi Tour Group – tourism operator for spa cooperation.

  • Klinika Movela (Liberec) – orthopedic clinic.

Czech experts underlined their potential in veteran rehabilitation, proposing combined solutions: diagnostics and treatment in the Czech Republic, followed by rehabilitation programs in Ukraine.

Future Cooperation and Prospects

The seminar highlighted several directions for future cooperation:

  • Joint rehabilitation programs for veterans and war victims.

  • Exchange of specialists and medical expertise.

  • B2B partnerships between Czech and Ukrainian tourism and healthcare companies.

  • Promotional events, exhibitions, and tours to attract international patients.

Taras Lozynsky stressed:

“We see prospects for building joint programs: diagnostics or primary treatment in the Czech Republic, and further rehabilitation and recovery in Ukraine. Also, an important direction is the exchange of specialists and joint promotional events.”

Conclusion

Both Czech and Ukrainian partners confirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation in the medical and health tourism sector. The Kyiv seminar is expected to become a starting point for new bilateral projects, supporting patients, businesses, and the development of post-war rehabilitation services.
