Ukraine and the United States Sign a Memorandum on Space Travel

Ukraine and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of space safety and the provision of services and information on space situational awareness

Such an improvement in the conditions of cooperation will give our state access to information on spacecraft flights. Ukraine will receive data on the numerical and qualitative composition of orbital groups of existing spacecraft of space systems, will be able to assess their overall functionality by basic spatial and temporal characteristics, identify space objects for observation by domestic means, including radar.

The opening of new horizons will give Ukraine many opportunities:

  • identify existing spacecraft in all available open resources;
  • to model the orbital flight of spacecraft and explore their functionality;
  • to form domestic main and partial catalogs of space objects, to improve their quantitative and qualitative characteristics.

"The memorandum creates the legal basis and mechanisms for the joint use of space situational awareness in order to increase the safety of space flights, exchange services, and information. This will ensure that Ukraine creates the conditions for receiving from the US space command information and services on space situational awareness," said the ministry of defense.

Let's remind that on September 30 the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived on a visit to the USA. On August 31, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US secretary of defense Lloyd Austin.

On September 1, he will meet with Joe Biden to discuss security and strategic partnerships, as well as sign documents in the field of defense.
