A technical change with practical consequences
Ukrainian individual entrepreneurs and legal entities are preparing for a transition to a new classification of economic activities. From the beginning of 2027, Ukraine will start moving to NACE two point one UA, which will gradually replace the current DK 009:2010 classifier. The change looks administrative, but it affects registration data, statistics, taxation settings, reporting and how state bodies identify business activity.
The key point for companies is that no automatic transition is planned. After the state service is launched, each entrepreneur and each legal entity will have to submit an application to update its KVED codes through a state registrar or through Diia. Preparation by state bodies is expected to continue through the end of 2026, while from 2028 Ukraine plans to use only the new classification.
Alignment with European standards
The update is part of Ukraine’s official statistics development program and reflects obligations connected with the Association Agreement with the European Union. In practice, the country is adapting a European classification standard so that business data becomes more comparable with EU systems. For investors, banks and partners, this should gradually improve transparency around company profiles and sector mapping.
The transition will require attention from small businesses, accountants and legal advisers. A company that misses the update may face confusion in registration records or delays when dealing with public services. The best approach is to treat the new classifier not as a formality, but as a housekeeping step that keeps the business profile clean before wider European integration.
