It is known that Smart Maritime Group and VEKA Shipbuilding WT B.V have been cooperating for more than 10 years. During this time, the Ukrainian shipbuilding plant has already built 11 tanker and chemical tanker hulls for VEKA.
In January 2022, SMG started cutting metal for the first bulk carrier hull. The carrying capacity of the vessel is 5.050 tons. The second vessel of the four ordered is a complete extensive tug. The construction of the vessel is scheduled for February 2022.
“Our shipbuilders have signed a contract for the construction of a series of ships for a customer from the Netherlands. This is a good sign that promises reliable capacity utilization of the enterprise for several years to come, full employment of workers, and a stable salary for them,” says an SMG representative.
It is known that for the production of ships and ships Smart Maritime Group uses steel mined in Ukraine and manufactured at the Ukrainian metal plant Azovstal (the port city of Mariupol, southeastern Ukraine) of the Metinvest company. The construction of one building takes about 1200 tons of steel.
Earlier, VEKA official Huig Spaargaren commented on the cooperation of the companies: “The client accepted the work without comment, and I can confirm his opinion: the vessel was built very professionally. Now there is a boom in shipbuilding in Europe, so we look forward to furthering cooperation with SMG and not only in this project.”
“If Ukraine wants to develop shipbuilding as one of the basic industries, then it certainly requires special attention from the state. One of the key problems of the industry today remains the attraction of available financial resources for the implementation of such long-term projects. We hope that this situation will change in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, the successful completion of this contract is another confirmation that our shipyards are ready to provide shipbuilding and ship repair services at the highest professional level,” Dmytro Krasnykov, general director of Smart Maritime Group.
SMG is located in the sea and city of Kherson, at the mouth of the main river of Ukraine, Dnipro. The plant was founded in 1778 on the site of an ancient fortress and is still successfully operating.
Recall that Smart Maritime Group recently accepted an order to construct a floating dock for the Turkish company Hidrodinamik Shipyard.
