Ukraine Doubled Sea Port Cargo Turnover in August 2024

In August 2024, the cargo turnover at Ukrainian sea ports reached 7 million tons, more than double the 3.3 million tons recorded in August 2023

This significant growth was reported by the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.

Leading the cargo traffic in August were grain and ore shipments. Grain exports reached 4 million tons, compared to 2.3 million tons in August 2023, while ore shipments totaled 1.2 million tons, a substantial increase from 195,000 tons the previous year.

Cargo turnover through Ukraine's sea corridor alone amounted to 5.9 million tons, with Ukrainian farmers contributing 3.6 million tons of agricultural products.

For the first eight months of 2024, Ukrainian ports handled nearly 67 million tons of cargo, a sharp rise from 37.7 million tons during the same period in 2023. A total of 7,769 ships were processed, compared to 9,732 in the previous year.

Ukraine relies on its ports for approximately 80% of its exports. Since the start of the marketing year, grain exports have increased by over 50%, reaching 3.44 million tons, signaling a return to pre-war levels of trade.
