Ukraine’s first long-term electricity auctions sell out completely

Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo tested a new mechanism for predictable market contracts

A new market mechanism

Ukraine's first special sessions for selling electricity under long-term bilateral contracts ended with full placement of all offered volumes. The auctions took place on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange on July 13-14 and 20-21, 2026, with supply periods from August to September and from August to December.

Volumes and buyers

Energoatom sold 405,667 MWh, while Ukrhydroenergo sold 56,481 MWh. Weighted average prices varied by supply period. The first sessions involved fifty-three companies and produced twenty-one winners; the second involved twenty-eight buyers and fifteen winners.

The Energy Ministry says the mechanism gives market participants more predictable procurement conditions and gives state producers more predictable revenues. The next stage is scheduled for July 27, with contracts covering supply from August 2026 to June 2027.

Investment signal

Longer contracts matter for an energy system operating under wartime pressure. Predictable volumes and prices help buyers plan, producers manage cash flow, and investors assess future revenue. For Ukraine's electricity sector, the pilot shows demand for transparent long-term instruments.
