Ukraine Exports Over 5 Million Tons of Grain Since Start of 2025/26 Season

Exports fall by 40% compared to last year, with sharp declines in corn and barley shipments

Grain Export Volumes in 2025/26

According to the State Customs Service, as of September 10, Ukraine has exported 5.028 million tons of grain since the beginning of the 2025/26 marketing year (MY). This figure is significantly lower than last year’s exports of 8.5 million tons during the same period.

Breakdown by crop:

  • Wheat: 3.42 million tons (↓ 27% vs. 4.67 million tons last year)

  • Corn: 890,000 tons (↓ 64% vs. 2.49 million tons)

  • Barley: 685,000 tons (↓ 40% vs. 1.16 million tons)

  • Rye: no exports reported this season

Export Value and Broader Trade Trends

Since the start of 2025, Ukraine’s total exports have reached $26.3 billion, reflecting the critical role of agribusiness in national trade despite logistical and wartime challenges.

Corn showed the sharpest decline, largely due to yield fluctuations and delayed harvesting campaigns. Meanwhile, wheat continues to dominate Ukraine’s export mix, accounting for more than two-thirds of all grain shipments so far.

Market Context

The slowdown in grain exports comes at a time of:

  • Logistical constraints due to war-related risks in ports and transport routes.

  • Global price pressures, as alternative suppliers compete in Europe, North Africa, and Asia.

  • Shifting demand from EU partners amid ongoing negotiations on agricultural trade quotas and tariffs.
