Ukraine joins European food safety agencies meeting for the first time

The participation strengthens regulatory trust, export dialogue and alignment with EU control practices

Ukraine has taken part for the first time in the plenary meeting of European food safety agency leaders, a professional platform for authorities responsible for food safety, veterinary medicine, plant health and consumer protection. The Ukrainian delegation was led by the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

The meeting matters because food safety is one of the practical foundations of market access. For Ukraine, closer dialogue with European competent authorities can support export procedures, risk management and the gradual alignment of state control with EU standards.

Trust in control systems

During the event, the Ukrainian side presented reforms in the food safety system, progress on European integration and the experience of maintaining state control during wartime. European partners were interested in how Ukrainian institutions preserve continuity of inspection and risk management under exceptional pressure.

The meeting also included bilateral talks with the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office. The parties discussed trade and economic cooperation, animal health, product certification and possible technical assistance projects.

For Ukrainian producers, such institutional work has a direct business dimension. Stronger trust between regulators helps reduce uncertainty for exporters and can open room for more predictable certification, veterinary and phytosanitary procedures. It is also part of Ukraine’s broader integration into the European quality and safety space.
