Ukraine Gains Access to Argentine Market for Sunflower Seeds

Coordinated phytosanitary agreements open new export opportunities for Ukrainian seed producers

Market Access Achievement

Ukraine has officially secured the right to export sunflower seeds for sowing to the Argentine Republic, marking a significant expansion of its agricultural trade geography.

This became possible after phytosanitary requirements were aligned between Ukraine’s State Service for Food and Consumer Protection and Argentina’s National Service for Health Protection and Quality of Agro-Food Products, with diplomatic support from:

  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

  • The Embassy of Ukraine in Argentina

  • Other Ukrainian diplomatic institutions

Export Conditions

  • Shipments must meet specific phytosanitary standards

  • Compliance will be verified through an additional declaration in the phytosanitary certificate

  • Only seeds for sowing are covered under the new export agreement

Strategic Importance

According to Serhiy Tkachuk, Head of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection:

“The opening of the Argentine market for Ukrainian sunflower seeds is the result of systematic work by our phytosanitary service and international partners. It strengthens Ukraine’s position in the global agricultural market and creates new opportunities for domestic producers. We will continue to work on opening new markets and protecting Ukrainian export interests.”

Outlook for Ukrainian Agriculture

  • New sales channels in South America diversify risks for Ukrainian seed exporters

  • Increased potential for partnerships with Argentine agricultural producers

  • Sets a precedent for further global market openings for Ukrainian agriproducts
