The summer-autumn period of every Ukrainian is impossible without the use of such a healthy vegetable as pepper. In 2020, 181,3 thousand tons of pepper were produced, which is 5% more than last year.
Experts of the Ukrainian Club of agrarian business note: “Although the production volumes of this vegetable in Ukraine are significantly inferior to the more traditional for Ukraine tomatoes and cucumbers, our country ranks 18th in the ranking of the largest producers of pepper in the world.”
There are two types of pepper: bitter and sweet, both are grown in Ukraine by both industrial invest.com/investing-in-ukraine/starting-business-in-ukraine/build-an-enterprise/" rel="dofollow">enterprises and households. At the same time, the share of production by industrial enterprises is insignificant — only 7%. The rest is produced in households to meet their own needs or partial further implementation. If we compare the two types of pepper, then the share of sweet peppers is much higher — 94% of the total production.
“Over the past 5 years, the volume of imports of pepper to Ukraine has grown 3 times, which is associated with the formation of a healthier culture of consumption and consumption of vegetables all year round. The main volumes of import supplies fall in the winter and spring months, when there is practically no domestic production of pepper in Ukraine.
In 2020, 14,6 thousand tons of this vegetable were imported, which is 7% higher than the same indicator of the previous year. At the same time, export shipments of pepper are minimal. The main suppliers of pepper in Ukraine are: Turkey (40% of Ukrainian imports in monetary terms in 2020), Spain (29%), the Netherlands (14%), Poland (12%) and France (2%)," comments the analyst of UCAB Svetlana Litvin.
