Ukraine and Lithuania agree on booking LNG supply volumes

Naftogaz says the Klaipeda route can become part of Ukraine’s gas diversification and regional energy security

Ukraine and Lithuania are working on arrangements to reserve volumes for liquefied natural gas supply through the Klaipeda terminal. The talks were finalized during a visit of the Ukrainian government delegation to Lithuania.

Naftogaz head Serhii Koretskyi said the route had already been tested in early 2026, when the group imported LNG from the United States to Ukraine via Klaipeda for the first time. The next step is to make the route a stable element of supply diversification.

A Baltic route for energy security

The importance of the route is not only commercial. For Ukraine, access to LNG through Lithuania reduces dependence on limited supply corridors and adds flexibility to winter planning. For Lithuania, the partnership confirms the strategic role of its LNG infrastructure in regional security.

The Ukrainian delegation also discussed the possible use of free capacity in Ukraine’s gas transmission infrastructure by the EU. This gives the cooperation a wider dimension: LNG supply, storage, transit and emergency resilience can be combined into one regional energy chain.

Lithuania remains one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters relative to the size of its economy. Energy cooperation now adds another practical layer to political and defense support.
