Ukraine on the Way to the European Union

Reform Progress. What the European Parliament praised Ukraine for?

Ukraine has shown "significant progress" in the implementation of the Association agreement and integration into the European Union. In particular, the EU noted the progress in reforms in agriculture, energy, banking sector, decentralization, digital economy, environmental protection and electoral procedures.
Ukraine has been praised for relaunching the National agency for the prevention of corruption (NAPC) and delivering first verdicts by the High anti-corruption court, which adheres to high professional standards.
The NAPC has a preventive function, in particular, to check the declarations of civil servants and their lifestyle, disclose any information about the facts of corruption or abuse of position. The launch of the anti-corruption agency is one of the requirements of the European Union for a visa-free regime with Ukraine.
The European parliament recognizes the active efforts initiated by President Zelenskyy and taken by political players to restore legislation and trust in Ukraine's anti-corruption architecture.
Among the completed tasks on environmental policy, Ukraine reported on the launch of a forest inventory, the sale of 100% commercial timber through open auctions and a developed forest management strategy until 2035.
Development priorities were also outlined: climate finance, forestry, waste management, industrial pollution prevention and biodiversity development.
The ministry of environmental protection of Ukraine plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2060 — in particular, the Ukrainian сlimate аund will be created for this.
The EU also supported the adoption in March 2020 of a law on the turnover of agricultural land, which should contribute to unlocking the enormous potential of Ukraine in the agricultural sector, as well as the adoption in May 2020 of a law on improving certain instruments for regulating banking activities.
