Ukraine Prepares to Enter Chinese Market with Five New Products

Export protocols for wheat flour, pet food, poultry, beef, and corn will strengthen Ukraine’s agricultural presence in China

Expanding Trade Horizons

The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection of Ukraine is preparing to expand the list of products authorized for export to China. Negotiations and technical protocols are underway, which will significantly broaden Ukraine’s access to one of the largest consumer markets in the world.

At the 6th International Seminar on Food Safety BIOEASY in China, First Deputy Head Oleg Osiyan confirmed Ukraine’s intention to deepen cooperation and align standards with Chinese requirements.

Five Products Under Consideration

Ukraine is preparing protocols for the supply of:

  • Wheat flour – to diversify grain-based exports beyond raw commodities.

  • Pet food – a fast-growing segment of the Chinese consumer market.

  • Poultry meat – additional categories to complement current access.

  • Beef – with an expanded nomenclature to cover new cuts and processed products.

  • Corn – updated requirements to secure stable access for Ukrainian producers.

Recent Market Openings

In 2025, China already approved Ukrainian exports of:

  • Peas;

  • Wild-caught aquatic products.

These successes demonstrate that Ukraine is gradually building a systematic presence in China’s agri-food sector.

Strategic Impact

  • For Ukraine’s economy: Expanding agricultural exports to China will strengthen foreign exchange earnings and create opportunities for value-added processing industries.

  • For investors: Entry into the Chinese market signals stable long-term demand and creates potential for joint ventures in logistics, certification, and processing.

  • For bilateral relations: Ukraine-China trade ties are becoming more diversified, moving beyond raw grain into processed and high-value products.

Conclusion

With five new products being prepared for export, Ukraine is strategically positioning itself to capture growth in China’s consumer market, reduce reliance on raw exports, and showcase its capacity for food safety, processing, and value-added trade.
