For the first time in 10 years, Ukraine presented large-scale projects at the largest architectural exhibition in the world. The organizers approved 2 Ukrainian spaces for participation. This year, the central theme of the Biennale is the Laboratory of the Future. Therefore, Ukrainian architects, in their projects, realized the present and the desire for peace, environmental friendliness, and manufacturability. The first Ukrainian pavilion is called Before the Future. It is located in the Venetian gardens of Giardini. Ukrainian artists divided the project into 2 parts: on the one hand, the future with disasters because of people, and on the other – the victory of Ukraine, the desire of people for peace, development, and work in teams. The peculiarity of the architectural project is that people create the future not in laboratories but in bomb shelters. Thus, the architects showed the reality of Ukraine.
Another project is located on the main location of the Arsenale exhibition. It is similar to the drama theatre of Mariupol, on which the Russians dropped a heavy-duty bomb, calling the inscription "Children." There is almost no light, a low ceiling, 2 evacuation exits and imitation of defensive shafts. In addition, a video about the Mariupol Drama Theater will be added. It will be a 3D space model in which at least 2.000 people hid, arranged it, spent the spring of 2022 and died. Such a project brings a piece of Ukrainian reality to Venice.
Ukrainian exhibition will work from 7 to 29 August as well as 63 other pavilions. The architectural project from Ukraine has already entered the 11 best national pavilions, according to Deezen magazine.
