Ukraine Сanceled Imposition of Duties on the Import of Cables

The import duty could negatively affect the development of the state's communications infrastructure

The interdepartmental сommission on international trade decided to call off the import of a special duty on the import of foreign cables. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of digital transformation.

"The introduction of the duty could negatively affect the development of the communication infrastructure of Ukraine. The price of the Internet for users could rise. In particular, the cost of purchases within the framework of the Internet subvention project, which the Ministry of digital transformation implements in 3 thousand villages across the country, could significantly affect the achievement of one of the main goals of the Ministry to provide 95% of the population with access to the optical Internet by 2024," the message says.

The Ministry representatives also added that all types of cabling and wiring products are not produced in Ukraine or are not produced on an industrial scale, and the application of an import duty could lead to an increase in the delivery time of products, restrict market participants' access to the required assortment of goods and affect the choice, in particular, according to criteria such as price/quality.

As UNIAN info-resource reported earlier, in September the cabinet of ministers approved an action plan for the development of broadband Internet access for 2021-2022, the implementation of which should solve the problem of uneven access of Ukrainians to the Internet.
