Ukraine Sent More Than 400 Tons of Peas to Mauritania as Part of the “Grain from Ukraine” Program

Ukraine and the World Food Program (WFP) have dispatched a shipment of 423 tons of split peas to Mauritania, marking the first time this type of aid has been sent as part of the “Grain from Ukraine” humanitarian program

This initiative was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

These deliveries will support WFP activities in the region, including school feeding programs and aid during the lean season. Part of the Ukrainian peas will be used in school canteens throughout Mauritania and in camps for displaced persons. The other part will support public health care centers in combination with other products.

Additional shipments of Ukrainian food for humanitarian needs are planned for Mauritania and other countries in the coming months.

The "Grain from Ukraine" initiative, launched in the spring of 2022, aims to support global food security and assist the most vulnerable countries and regions by supplying grain, oil, and other food products from Ukraine.

Moreover, the program is set to expand to include other food products. Mikela Carucci, a specialist in food systems and sustainability of the World Food Program (WFP) in Ukraine, highlighted the growing cooperation with Ukrainian agro-processors, noting that during the full-scale war, the volume of humanitarian products from Ukrainian producers amounted to more than half a billion dollars in value equivalent.
