Ukraine is poised to enter the global sugar market, competing with European Union countries such as France and Germany, as a surplus of sugar is anticipated in the EU. Roman Ogorodov, General Director of UKRPROMINVEST-AGRO, provided insights into Ukraine's sugar production and export prospects.
Key Points:
Export Quota to EU: Ukraine's sugar export quota to the European Union for the upcoming year is expected to be around 109,000 tons. This quota may be distributed proportionally among Ukrainian sugar producers based on their production volumes.
Projected Sugar Production: Ukraine is anticipated to produce between 1.6 million and 1.7 million tons of sugar this season, with domestic consumption estimated at 900,000 tons. The surplus production positions Ukraine to compete on the global stage.
Factory Operations: UKRPROMINVEST-AGRO plans to start operations at its Haysyn sugar factory between September 5 and 10, followed by the Kryzhopolsky factory from September 15 to 25.
Ukraine's increased sugar production and export capabilities indicate a growing role in the global sugar market, where it will face competition from established EU producers.
