Ukraine Sets Sights on Producing Over a Million Drones Annually, Prime Minister Announces

Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, has declared the country’s readiness to manufacture over one million drones annually, emphasizing the Ukrainian business sector’s capacity to meet and exceed this production target

This announcement comes as the Ukrainian government commits to purchasing all domestically produced drones to support its defense forces.

"In 2024, significant strides have been made to bolster our domestic arms production. The President has set an ambitious objective of achieving a million drones. We're confident that the Ukrainian market and businesses are already equipped to surpass this target. Of course, we will procure everything produced by our businesses to supply our Defense Forces," stated Prime Minister Shmyhal.

To facilitate this drone production initiative, the Cabinet of Ministers has earmarked additional funding, allocating approximately 40 billion hryvnias (about USD 1.08 billion) for drone manufacturing and an additional sum exceeding 40 billion hryvnias for drone acquisitions.

As of February 1, 2024, the special fund account holds nearly 1.8 billion hryvnias (approximately USD 48.8 million), with over 259 million hryvnias (about USD 7 million) contributed to the account in the last month alone, showcasing the government's financial commitment to this significant defense production effort.
