Ukraine has officially begun developing NCTS Phase 6, the latest version of the EU’s New Computerised Transit System — a crucial step toward full integration with European customs and alignment with the Common Transit Convention. Funded by the EU4PFM Public Finance Management Programme, the upgraded system is due to be completed and deployed in 2026.
Designed to automate and expedite customs procedures, NCTS 6 introduces deeper digital harmonisation with EU partners while cutting paperwork and border delays. Ukraine has opted for the more sophisticated “opt-in” configuration — preserving maximum operational flexibility and trader benefits in the run-up to EU accession.
According to the State Customs Service, the new platform will directly connect Ukrainian businesses to EU transit infrastructure, optimising procedures and reducing compliance frictions. Adoption follows a surge in transit activity: in Q2 2025, Ukraine processed almost 34,000 NCTS declarations — a record and up 8,000 quarter-on-quarter.
For investors and logistics operators, the shift signals Ukraine’s determination to embed itself into European supply chains and increase the competitiveness of its export-import flows ahead of full Single Market entry.
