Ukraine’s parliament ratified the free trade agreement with Turkey, a document originally signed in Kyiv on 3 February 2022 after years of negotiations. The ratification law received 236 votes, exceeding the required minimum.
The agreement is intended to deepen trade relations between the two economies and create clearer conditions for exporters, importers and investors. It will enter into force after completion of ratification procedures by both sides and the exchange of relevant instruments.
Long negotiation track
The agreement followed twelve rounds of negotiations and expert consultations held between 2011 and 2022. Turkey’s parliament ratified the deal in August 2024, while Ukraine continued discussions on transitional periods for sensitive sectors after the full-scale war changed economic conditions.
For business, the key question will be how tariff liberalization and transition rules affect specific industries, including light industry and manufacturing. The agreement may broaden market access, but companies will need to watch implementation details and sectoral safeguards closely.
