“UkraineRecovery” Conference Lugano

A conference dedicated to the post-war restoration of Ukraine will be held in Switzerland on July 4-5

The conference was scheduled until February 24, that is, Russia's attack on Ukraine. The conference's purpose was to discuss and take the first step toward progressive reforms in Ukraine, improve public administration/decentralization and specifically address the issue of corruption. After February 24, the priorities of the conference changed: now, it will discuss the possibilities and prospects for the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war's end, as well as the international preparation of the ground for the resurrection of the post-war country before this war ends.

"The number one priority remains to end the war because, without an end to the war, casualties and destruction will certainly continue. And they are already ongoing, and the number of problems and their scale are growing daily," Manal Fouani, UNDP representative for Ukraine.

Swiss president Ignazio Cassis sees the need for this summit as "a direct responsibility of Switzerland and an opportunity for it to contribute to European stability." According to the UkraineRecovery conference platform, 41 countries, 19 organizations from all over the world, including the UN, UNDP, and World Bank, got an invitation to the platform. Ursula von der Leyen and Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also attend, but the latter is most likely to join online.

Manal Fouani said that the plan for the reconstruction of Ukraine, which is currently being developed by UNDP, includes "economic, social, environmental and infrastructural reconstruction." It is emphasized that special attention will be paid to the effectiveness of the distribution of funds for restoration, as well as the opinion of the Ukrainian people themselves. thus Ukrainian society will directly influence which country we will reap after the war.
