This development is a key priority for the Ministry of Defense, aimed at enhancing the capabilities and combat readiness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Dmytro Klimenkov, highlighted the importance of international cooperation in bolstering Ukraine's defense.
The contract is a result of the collaboration between the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV), following an agreement signed at the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July 2023. Maryna Bezrukova, Director of the Defense Procurement Agency, emphasized the significance of this initial step and the anticipation of future projects with FMV to meet the urgent needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This partnership facilitates the adoption of best European practices in procurement transparency and efficiency.
Furthermore, an action plan, established during meetings in Stockholm earlier in February, outlines the potential for Ukraine to engage in existing Swedish procurement initiatives. Goran Mortensson, FMV's General Director, expressed optimism that this pioneering contract will lead to more agreements in the near future, thereby strengthening Ukraine's military forces.
