Ukrainian Airline SkyUp Resumes Flights: Using Credits from Canceled Flights

While Ukrainian airspace remains closed due to the full-scale invasion by Russia, the Ukrainian airline SkyUp Airlines is launching a schedule of direct regular flights from the Chisinau Airport in Moldova to popular European destinations

These routes include Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, and Cyprus.

Start of Operations & Ticket Sales:
The first flights are scheduled to begin in April 2025, with tickets available from December 11, 2024, according to a statement from the airline’s press service.

“As a Ukrainian carrier, it was not easy for us from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion. To preserve the team, fleet, and operations, we had to quickly adapt to the global aviation market. Today, SkyUp Airlines is already an international brand with Ukrainian roots. We’re happy to launch regular flights and welcome Ukrainians on board our planes again. We continue doing everything possible to maintain the resilience of Ukrainian aviation and offer convenient travel options for Ukrainians going about their business,” commented SkyUp Airlines CEO Dmytro Seroukhov.

Destinations & Fares:
SkyUp will offer direct flights from Chisinau to seven European cities popular with Ukrainians:

  • Alicante (Spain)
  • Barcelona (Spain)
  • Heraklion (Greece)
  • Larnaca (Cyprus)
  • Lisbon (Portugal)
  • Palma de Mallorca (Spain)
  • Thessaloniki (Greece)

As of now, the cheapest one-way tickets are to Thessaloniki, starting at €45 (minimum fare with hand luggage only). A flight to Alicante begins at about €65, while tickets to other destinations start from €100 one-way.

Using Credits from Canceled Flights:
Since the outbreak of the full-scale war, many Ukrainians have accumulated unused funds from canceled SkyUp flights. The airline has confirmed that these funds can now be used toward new bookings, covering up to 99% of the ticket fare. Passengers will need to pay airport fees and taxes separately.

For example, if a Thessaloniki ticket costs €45, the passenger may cover around €35 using their existing balance, then pay approximately €9.90 in fees out of pocket. The credits can also be applied to additional services such as checked baggage, seat selection, in-flight meals, and insurance.

SkyUp Operations During the War:
Since Ukraine closed its airspace due to the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, Ukrainian carriers, including SkyUp, were forced to halt flights from Ukraine. In the summer of 2022, SkyUp initiated a transition into the European market, establishing a European airline subsidiary and leasing its aircraft and crews to other airlines. They also continued operating charter flights for the tour operator Join UP!

In addition, SkyUp has obtained licenses to fly to the USA and Canada, and established bases in resort destinations in Egypt.
