On 14 September, all the governors of the World Bank Group member countries and the International Monetary Fund voted for a new governor. The politicians made a unanimous decision and declared the minister of finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko, the head of the Board of Governors of the world's banks. The politician will take office as early as 2023.
Serhii Marchenko is an economist, deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine, and minister of finance of Ukraine since March 30, 2020. During his two years in office, he managed to bring Ukraine to a new level of cooperation with leading international financial organizations. Today's decision of the governors confirms this. Ukraine has been a member of the WB and IMF for 30 years. But for the first time, a representative of the country will take over as manager.
"It is a great honour to represent Ukraine in the international financial arena. The new status will increase the effectiveness of cooperation with international financial organizations, World Bank and IMF member countries," the head of the Ministry of finance of Ukraine responded to the vote of the colleges.
