Ukrainian-European Rubicon

The last stone in the weight of granting Ukraine candidate status was the visit of France, Germany, Romania, and Italy to Kyiv and Bucha/Irpin

Minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba named the primary measures of the partner states and Ukraine's actions that were crucial in granting (or not granting) Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU accession. According to the minister, the diplomatic work of Emmanuel Macron, whose country currently chairs the EU Council, was an incredibly significant contribution.

And the turning point after which Ukraine's future in the EU was determined was the visit of Draghi, Macron, Scholz, and Johannis to Kyiv and mutilated by the occupation of Irpin on June 16.

"It should be noted that the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, played a significant role, and I pointed out that this decision was made during the French presidency. And it was a principled position to do it right now," Dmytro Kuleba said.

"Well, the turning point, I'll tell you honestly, was the visit of four European leaders to Kyiv last week, last Thursday, and their conversation with the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky," the minister said.

According to the head of the MFA, the EU countries that were skeptical about Ukraine's candidacy were the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, and Germany. However, all issues have already been resolved, and Ukraine has reached its goal.

"It was a very fragile, very delicate, very fragile process, but everything worked out, everything is fine," Kuleba summed up.
